Course Overview

The course provides information on the safe and correct use of Gantry cranes and G4 overhead travelling cranes and best practice to promote a safer environment for persons involved.

The course is to Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority approved standards of certified safety training Course 2.7 and NORSOK R-003N approved.

Course Structure

The course is a mix of theory and practical with a bias towards practical exercises. Delegates are evaluated by means of an examination.

Target group:

Personnel who is required to operate bridge/overhead cranes on a daily basis in connection to their work.

G4 Course content:

Introduction and requirements for crane operator
Area for use of bridge-/overhead cranes
Accidents with bridge-/overhead cranes
Construction of bridge-/overhead cranes
Electrical and hydraulic system
Safety switches (overload)
Maintenance and inspection
Practical use of lifting equipment
Work tasks
Driving techniques

In house training:

The course instructor can cooperate with the work place of each participant, and delegate the practical training to a mentor at the company. The mentor is required to have had a valid bridge/overhead crane certificate for more than 3 years with equivalent driving experience. The mentor should be appointed by the management in consultation with the instructor and safety representative in the company. The mentor should work as a supervisor, and make sure the training is in accordance with the curriculum. He or she should follow the instructions given by the instructor and the general regulations.

Diploma / Certificate of competence:

NKR - Norwegian Registry for Safety Training registers and issues operator certificates for the classes which the candidate has passed the theoretical and practical exam.
